In this series I photograph myself in moments that each deal with eliminating a different sense: smell, taste, touch, vision and hearing. The process of photographing myself with my face wrapped is itself a test of loss of the senses. I incorporate contrasting objects or backgrounds to keep viewers feeling comfortable, yet at the same time suggesting the exact opposite. That’s ultimately what I want viewers to experience, the slightly confused, curious –or even alarming—state when a sense is erased. No matter what kind of mixed emotions the images create, I feel it’s very important to me that they will still be seen as compositionally elegant.
